Yeah, I'm real fuckin' saint. [He sighs and goes back to pushing his food around, this time actually bothering to stab at a bit of meat. It hurts like hell but he doesn't really want her to be miserable. As much as the jealous asshole part of him would like to say so. Her being as miserable as he is won't make him feel any better.]
[ She shakes her head a little. She knows the way Church is about her, the way he could never quite seem to let go without smothering her. So she's sincere, it really is big of him to wish her luck in a new relationship. She looks down at her food. ]
I know it can't be easy on you.
[ So yes, she acknowledges his pain, at least in a measure. Even if the breakup was his fault. ]
[ She says it quietly, because what else is there to say? Nothing, that's what. She picks at her food for a while longer, consuming it more slowly than how she normally eats. She's a bit contemplative, she supposes.
After a while, she finds she's getting full, and being here is just weird enough that she thinks it would be good to make her exit. If he's got nothing else to say, she'll simply stand and go over to where he set the fortune cookies and pick one up. ]
[He lets them finish in silence, he said his peace. Things are strained enough and he doesn't want to risk making things worse again. Strained is better than having her hate him. Even if she never wants to see him again. At least they won't be at each others throats for their last time together.
It had been about a week since she had last seen Church. Now that she is being allowed to make a phone call out, she can think of no one else here that she can contact. She doesn't particularly relish him being the one, but it's what's necessary.
So she places the call. She can hear the automated voice, stating that it's a collect call from the jail, after Church answers. All she can do is what for him to accept the charges.
Not hearing from Allison for a few days at a time had started to become normal. Not he wanted it that way and certainly not for wanting to see her... but he was trying his best to respect her decision and give her space. Even though it was hard as hell some days.
So, when the phone rings, part of him can't help but hope it's her. Although not quite the way it happens. He stammers his consent to the charges.
"Allison, what the hell? Why are you calling me from jail?" He knows she isn't a saint, she has a hell of a mean temper sometimes... but seriously? She get into a bar room brawl or something?
She sighs. "Because you're the only one around here I can call, okay?" she says. "I need you to pick me up. And I...kind of need a place to stay for a little while."
This whole situation is a mess, and she doesn't want to talk about it over the phone.

[In large part because it's unambiguously his fault this time. And it made him realize how bad he'd been.]
But. I never wanted to make you miserable, I'm sorry I did.
You should be happy.

She gets up and breaks him out of his thoughts.]
What, you get?

[ She shrugs and puts the fortune down, breaking the cookie in pieces so she can eat it. ]
That's always true, it feels like.
