Agent Texas had been on the run for some time. Ever since she had witnessed Maine, become the Meta, throwing Carolina off of a cliff. She'd been keeping an eye out for other agents who might be targeted by the Meta, hoping she might be able to disrupt what the Meta was doing, scanning communications and tracking him. What she'd never expected to find was evidence that Church was being kept in another location from the Project's headquarters here on this planet. What she picked up was Agent Florida, communicating with HQ about the status of Church and his teammate. She could hardly believe her ears, but that didn't mean she found it difficult to act. She triangulated the signal and headed toward the canyon where the signal had originated.

She entered the canyon through the caves, switching on her cloak, and making her way to Blue Base. She remembered these simulation bases from her time training as an agent of the Project, but she'd never been sent to this specific place. She spent some time observing the small team of three as they interacted, then waited until after the two underlings were sent out for patrol to reveal herself to the supposed Captain of the squad.

There are several choices for Tex after she crash-landed at Valhalla. She knows that Maine is pursuing her, and she knows her presence in combination with Omega and Gamma being there as well will draw him there. No one can account for the choices we make. In most cases she would have chosen to stay there, face him, and fight, yet there's one thought that keeps running through her mind, and that's Church's complete vulnerability.

She has no idea about the fact that the time distortion unit caused it to take a year for the ship to crash. She just absconds as soon as the ship is down. She makes her way back to Blood Gulch. She tells herself it's just exploratory, just to check on him, make sure things are okay, but she finds that he's gone. How can he be gone? She roots through the computer systems there, figures out it's been much longer than could ever make sense, and finds Church's relocation orders.

And so she's gone again, traveling with her invisibility on to avoid drawing Maine's attention. She reaches the base Church had been assigned to only to find that it's crumbling, the wall damaged. At least that makes infiltrating easy. She doesn't trust that he won't have some kind of protection—Flowers is dead, but surely the Director intends to keep him under guard. So she enters the base and stalks around, intending to kill anyone she finds inside besides Church, but there's no one. No one at all.

This is weird. He must be under surveillance, she thinks. She needs to meet up with him, but she needs for it to be without the Director knowing, so she exits the base and sets a charge off in the rocks outside. The plan is for him to notice the explosion and to go investigate. She positions herself behind the barrier there and materializes, waiting.

In a shadowy future Earth, Agent Texas of Project Freelancer faces off against the intelligence agency MI6.

For the purposes of this AU:
  • Project Freelancer is a rogue former government agency of the UN, which rules the planet.
  • Agent Texas wears a body armor suit, but nothing as durable or advanced as the armor shown in RvB canon. She does not have armor cloaking as in canon.
Other details to be added as necessary.

Church wasn't exactly the most patient of individuals. Especially after being sent out here to live on a base alone for bullshit reasons after everything he'd been through. So he finds the ride out to be fucking aggravating as hell. Every little bump irritates the shit out of him, and he's not content until he's left alone by the pilot who drops him off. Even then, he's kind of irritable for a while, until it occurs to him: there's no one here.

It's the best day of his life.

He spends most of his time not thinking about the things that have happened—very pointedly—especially not Tex's death in that plane, caused by that piece of shit Red sergeant asshole. Thinking about that only serves to depress him, and he needs to just stay away from that topic, at least for a while.

After spending, oh, about a week in bed, Church starts patrols. He patrols the wall, the guard turret, the yard, the base itself, the wall again... Well, there's not that much to this base, it turns out. But it's enough to keep him busy, he figures.

She remembered the training, everything she'd learned about AIs and their partnership with agents. She didn't exactly remember taking the time to do it, but the facts were all there in her head, and now it was time to put it all to use. She went into the OR, underwent the implantation process, and was taken to a special recovery room, which she had all to herself.

All was quiet, the lights dimmed, and Tex leaned back in the cot, waiting for some sign of her AI to manifest.

Church and Tex encountered each other before Blood Gulch. Will likely be an AU.

The job had been easy, at least for the two of them, and now they were ahead of schedule. Extraction was scheduled for the next morning and they were supposed to maintain radio silence in the meantime. So they found an old barracks there on the planet and settled in for the night, their quarry set aside until it was time to make it to the LZ next morning.

"Time to make do, I guess," York said, looking around the sparse room. There was a footlocker and a cot, and little else.
