"After I eat something." Which he isn't going to do just yet. Even the most conscientious student needed to take a little time to unwind upon getting home.

"You're always eating. Where do you put it all away?"

[bothbarrels]

"I stuff it in my cheeks," he says dryly. "Do you want me to fix you something too?" he adds as he rises and starts for the kitchen.

"Something small. I want to eat when it's dinner." Which either would be right before she went out (unlikely given the state of their kitchen normally) or she'd con her boyfriend into picking up something.

"Banana and peanut butter toast?" he asks, going about getting the things out to prepare one of those for himself.

[stackingthedeck]

"Just peanut butter toast. You can keep the banana." While he's busy in the kitchen, she'll continue work on her art piece which is most definitely not one of her brother.

"If you insist," he says, and when he returns his plate has two bananas on it. He hands off hers and sits back down.

She sets her plate down on top of the couch so she can finish what she's doing before flipping her sketchbook closed. She is not risking crumbs and peanut butter ruining her work.

"Are the bananas your secret for how you got so tall?"

He grins. "That's it. Bananas and stretches. You should have followed my regimen. You wouldn't be so short now."

She sticks her tongue out at him. "I was taller than you for a few years. Before you became a giant."

[bothbarrels]

"I did it just to spite you," he teases, taking a bite of his snack.

"I knew it. I'll make sure your stilts are showing in my picture."

[bothbarrels]

"They're fancy stilts, they look just like part of my legs."

[stackingthedeck]

"You must have stolen them because they sure weren't a gift from anyone."

[bothbarrels]

It was true, he'd somehow managed to come out a lot taller than their parents; about four inches taller than his own father. "It's good to be able to take what you need in life."

"Planning to get a basketball scholarship somewhere?" Her snack gone, she stands and takes her plate to the kitchen in a rare show that yes, she can be responsible.

[bothbarrels]

"That would probably require being good at basketball." And while he was athletic, the type of crowds that hung out on the basketball court at the local playground had never been the type of people he had wanted to be associated with.

"You're tall enough you could figure the rest out once you got there."

[bothbarrels]

He can't help chuckling, even though she's speaking idly. "I'd have better luck in football."

[stackingthedeck]

"I don't know if you head could handle being knocked around that much. You already have such a hard time staying focused."

[bothbarrels]

"What's wrong with my focus?" he says, half scoffing and half laughing. "I spend more time working on my homework than you."

[stackingthedeck]

"A lot of things." She leans forward and makes a poking motion towards his forehead. He's lucky she doesn't feel like moving close enough to actually do that right now. "Like the fact you only use it for your homework."

"There's that and fighting," he says. Because yes, he still spends time practicing with those MMA instruction videos now and then.

"You look like an idiot when you practice alone like that, you know." Which is partially why she joined in with him on occasion. She can't have her brother looking like that much of a fool.

"I'd look like a bigger idiot if I got beat up by some street punk," he points out with a wry smile. "Can't rely on you coming to rescue me every time something happens."
