[ He and Delta have been on the run for a few years now- long enough for him to get used to it, long enough for him to grow resigned that maybe it's just them, maybe things didn't turn out exactly like he'd wanted. They're still alive, though, and he tells himself that's something. That's something to look forward to. For the longest time, it is. It's just the two of them, just he and Delta and every so often they stop on a planet for a longer period of time, just to get around, meet some people.

Delta insists on it, anymore, after watching York fall into a depressive slump, and he insists on them stopping every so often, on York getting real, human contact, going out to dinner, doing something to take care of himself.

It's how they hear rumors of people passing through the outskirts of town-- purple armor. York takes note of it, has Delta check the radios and the comms once they're holed up in a hotel for the week, and after getting an idea of where they might be, he goes looking, hopeful. ]

[ Theta relayed the answer to him, but he held it close to the vest for now. ]

If it doesn't then he still means what he said about being able to stay tonight.

And we can stay tonight, but that doesn't make me trust him. What if she shows up?

Is that the main thing you're worried about?

[stackingthedeck]

No, I'm worried that he's got something up his sleeves and isn't telling us everything. You're too trusting.

[jackoftrumps]

Lexi, York can't bluff. He's a wide-open book.

[stackingthedeck]

That's assuming he hasn't changed.

[jackoftrumps]

[ He reached up to rub his forehead with his thumb. ]

I don't think that's the kind of thing you just suddenly fix. But look, tonight and tomorrow isn't that long. It'll give us a chance to catch our breath. You know how stressful things have been, for both of us. Doesn't that sound good?

Not when I know you're going to give him some of the money we've been saving up. [ Her voice was accusatory. She knew her brother too well and had a feeling that was on his mind. ]

Now, that's only fair. We're two-thirds of his expenses right now.

Then we should just get our own room.

[jackoftrumps]

That would be more expensive than just chipping in. And we don't have to give him the full two-thirds.

[ He was making so many concessions for this, but he really did just want the chance to catch up with York. South was the only company he had most of the time and as much as he loved her, that did get tedious. ]

[ Talking to her brother was getting frustrating and she was tempted to continue fighting him. She reluctantly glanced around the room before fixing her gaze back on him. ]

Will I keep getting the bed while we're here?

[jackoftrumps]

[ He nodded. ]

Yeah. I don't have a problem with it and neither does he.

Fine. But if I don't like anything he does, we're leaving.

[jackoftrumps]

I wouldn't expect you to put up with that.

[ But he is pleased, and polishing off the rest of what's on his plate is satisfying as he has Theta relay the news to Delta. ]

Delta, North says we're all green! You guys can come back now.

[ York slips back in the room with coffee in hand, sipping it idly as he closes and locks the door. ]

So. What's the consensus?

We're staying. [ A fact she only begrudgingly admitted and wasn't willing to elaborate on. ]

[jackoftrumps]

[ He nods, affirming the news without showing any emotion. He's glad, but he doesn't intend to draw undue attention to that fact. He'd presented it to South as a practical decision and for now, that's all it would appear to be. ]

Hey, there's a relief. How long..?

[ Not long, he'd assume, but he doesn't push, doesn't try to make it something else. He just gives North and South a pleased, easy-going smile. ]

Couple days, if you'll have us.

And if you don't pull any stupid stunts.

Already offered long as you need.

[ He cuts South a tired look at that, but doesn't rise to the bait. ]

[jackoftrumps]

I appreciate that. It's very generous.

[ And two days is all they've been able to negotiate with South for. He has Theta send a small packet indicating as much, so that York doesn't press any more on that point.

He sets his plate aside and stretches. He truly wants a shower but letting South have first pick, should she desire, seems prudent. ]

Lexi, shower's up for grabs, if you want to go first. Otherwise I'm going to take it, if you don't mind, Sean.

[ That seemed to be a convenient way for them to talk alone, but she wanted a shower just as badly as he did and she got up with a slight grumble. ]
