[ The ride back after the Sarcophagus mission isn't the most pleasant ride Wash has ever experienced after a successful mission. There are injuries, Carolina's in a horrible mood, and everyone is just sort of tensely quiet. It's nothing short of a relief when they finally return to the Mother of Invention, and the first thing Wash does is follow behind the medics as they take Maine in to surgery. He's worried--several shots to the throat? It's surprising that Maine's even lasted this long.

When he's not allowed in while they do the actual surgery, he does move off to watch from the observation area, but...it gets a little too difficult to watch not long in. It might be better to do something else, distract himself with something less worrisome. After all, if Maine's made it this long, surely he'll survive the surgery, right? That's what Wash sticks to telling himself as he slips back out into the corridor.

Already at a loss for what to actually do with himself, he pauses in the hall, just sort of standing there for what must be a good few minutes. Staring at the wall without really looking at it, lost in thought--most of which are not the less worrisome ones he's trying to focus on--he only snaps back to reality at the sound of armoured boots walking across the metal floor. Jerking his head up and looking over, it's a surprise to see the black armour belonging to Texas. None of them see her outside of missions often, but it perks Wash right up. She's totally intimidating, but she hadn't punched him or anything when he'd talked to her earlier, so that's a good sign, right? Even if she'd...not really said anything at all and kind of jumped out of the Pelican... Still, it gives him a bit more confidence. Enough to actually approach her and fall into step beside her. ]

So, uh. You were pretty awesome today. [ Yeah, he's on a roll here. ]

Seriously. Like, jumping out the back of a Pelican without a jetpack? I could never do that.

[ He's wearing a friendly, if nervous smile under his helmet and even if it can't be seen, it's easily heard in his tone of voice. Hopefully she won't find him annoying or anything, he just...kind of wants to gush a little about how badass she was. That's all. ]

[ ooc: had an idea for a canonpoint and ran with it but if something doesn't work, lmk! i'll change it up, no problem. ]

[ There's definitely some awe in his expression. He's seen a lot of things since joining Freelancer, all kinds of really cool moves and attacks, but everything he's seen from Tex so far has probably been the most impressive. Not that he'd ever say that anywhere that Carolina could hear him.

The response earned has Wash shutting his mouth, but it has him laughing nervously. Okay, yeah, he'd been pretty enthusiastic there and completely obvious about his amazement. It's nice to actually hear Tex's voice for once, though. Honestly, she has a nice voice, he thinks, even nicer when it's used in regular conversation rather than the heat of a mission. It's... also cool to know that she's got a sense of humor under all that armor. That's unexpected. From the vibes he's been getting off of her the odd time he's seen her, she doesn't seem like someone to crack a joke. Then again, he barely sees her and, when he does, it's usually only on missions. ]

Right. Sorry. [ There's another nervous chuckle. ]

I just... thought it was cool. I've never seen anyone do that before.
