After what she's been through in the previous year, he's not going to disagree. "It is. I've definitely gone through my periods where I'm working more than others."
"For the same reasons, I'm sure." Dry sarcasm at its finest and she has to reel in those off-the-cuff remarks. She doesn't know him that well, so who knows how he'll take it. "It's just how our line of work goes."
"Right." He catches her meaning but isn't going to put too fine a point on it. She has her reasons for being cynical and he's not going to dispute them.
So many reasons that she's lost count over the years. This is just one more in a long line. "Anyway, I've got a years worth of good connections. So if this partnership works out, you'll get to take a look at them."
That takes only a moment and then he settles back into his seat to while the time away on the four-hour flight. He's not one to doze on a plane, so he spends the time looking over old contracts and future possible jobs.
She engrosses herself with the plans he sent over. It looks just as he described when they were discussing the finer points of the assignment, but it's different being able to examine everything herself. So far, the mission should be fairly simple, but the client wouldn't be hiring a pair if they thought it would all go smoothly. This will be a good test of them working together.
Once she's finished going over the files, she pulls out her book to read. It'll help keep her mind fresh and clear before they jump into work.
Once the plane lands he retrieves his bag from the overhead compartment and tucks his COM pad inside. She should already know from perusing the plans that they're going to be picked up from the airport, so he doesn't need to explain any of that. Instead he just leads the way to the baggage claim and keeps an eye out for his cases.
Getting their equipment in order and waiting for pick-up tend to be the dullest parts of the job. Once they're suited up and being briefed is when things really pick up. This is what she lives for - the thrill of the job and that moment of absolute satisfaction when it's finished. There's no doubt that she loves what she does, even if it means risking life and limb and taking out those who stand in her way.
They meshed well in the field, just as well as they had on that job they first met on. Partners are something she tends to avoid, but going into business with someone even if it's only for a few jobs means widening her market. If their other assignments go as well as this trial one did, then it would be worth taking the leap and having someone that could watch her six.
The adrenaline is still pumping through her system as they head out to a local bar to celebrate their success. Their flight out won't leave until mid-morning so there's time to burn and the pay had been generous even when split down the middle.
It is indeed nice to add all that money to his accounts and spending a night out celebrating with his partner is a nice way to cap things off. They definitely meshed well and the mission was a total success, which means there's no reason not to.
Once they're seated at the bar he orders a rum and coke. "I'll pick up this round," he offers.
"I'll never say no to that offer." Free alcohol should never be passed up. She orders herself a tequila sunrise and leans back in her seat. "Gotta say, that went better than expected."
She's making quick work of her drink and eying the space reserved for dancing. She's got energy to burn, even if the day's been busy. "Think you handle dancing after our drinks?"
A smile grows on his face. He's kind of surprised she'd go for that having been recently widowed, but it sounded like a fun time. "Yeah, absolutely," he says.
A dance doesn't mean anything and she could use a real night out, not one where she's alone with her thoughts. She smirks a little as she sips at her drink. When it's empty, she leaves the glass on the bar and motions for him to stand with her. "Think you can keep up?"

"Do you have your COM pad? I can send over the plans on what we're supposed to be doing."
