[ He and Delta have been on the run for a few years now- long enough for him to get used to it, long enough for him to grow resigned that maybe it's just them, maybe things didn't turn out exactly like he'd wanted. They're still alive, though, and he tells himself that's something. That's something to look forward to. For the longest time, it is. It's just the two of them, just he and Delta and every so often they stop on a planet for a longer period of time, just to get around, meet some people.

Delta insists on it, anymore, after watching York fall into a depressive slump, and he insists on them stopping every so often, on York getting real, human contact, going out to dinner, doing something to take care of himself.

It's how they hear rumors of people passing through the outskirts of town-- purple armor. York takes note of it, has Delta check the radios and the comms once they're holed up in a hotel for the week, and after getting an idea of where they might be, he goes looking, hopeful. ]

Too long ago. [ She spoke with a grumble and finished her meal. ] How long are we staying here?

[ He gives them both a worried look- South might not be his favorite Freelancer, or anything, but still. They both need to eat. ]

That'd be up to you guys.

[ He looks impressed with that offer, arching an eyebrow, then glancing at his sister. ]

I suppose we'll have to talk about that.

[ At that moment Theta projected his hologram to supply his own opinion. ]

I like it here. I like talking with Delta. I want to stay as long as we can./

Alone or right now? [ She ignored Theta for now. It chiming up was just another damn reminder of what she didn't get. ]

[ Yeah, that one's up to North. York gives Theta an affectionate little grin. ]

You and D can trade data or whatever you crazy kids do, all you want right now, but you probably oughta let North and South talk it out.

[ He turns to them, curious. ]

Would it help if I left the room and D and Theta could talk that way?

[ He didn't need to look at his sister to know the answer to that. ]

Letting us talk it out alone would be best. I'll have Theta notify Delta when we're done.

[ She nodded in agreement and watched York expectantly until he left the room as promised. ]

[ Delta hovers over his shoulder as he gives North and Theta a little wave and slips out the door, wondering if the coffee place is open. ]

[ Once the door closes he shrugs at her. ] You don't trust him.

Why should I? He was with her when they turned against us. [ Her voice was harsh and she was ready to fight with her brother over it if it came down to it. ]

I sided with them, too. What's different about that?

What, you want to run off with him now?

No. I just want to go with this for now; as long as he's willing to pay to put us up for a few days, we can work on getting another job and we'll be able to keep everything we make.

You really want to risk everything and trust him?

How is that risking everything? I know he's trustworthy.

And I think he isn't. I don't want to put my ass on the line because you think we can trust him.

[ He lets out a small huff of breath. ] Two days, then. Tomorrow, and the day after. Then we go.

Did he say we could stay that long? Because all I heard was that we could stay tonight.

[ This is all strategy, of course. He wants her to choose to stay tonight, and he's hoping making it sound like a short period of time is the key to that. ]

What if staying as long as we want means just that?

[ On the other hand...if he can actually get her to agree to this, it'll be nice to know if the offer extends that far. Theta had been sending Delta small packets the whole time they'd been talking; now North mentally requested him to ask Delta how long the offer stood for. ]

York and I are in agreement. So long as South maintains a...somewhat peaceful intent, you both are welcome to accompany us for as long as needed. We will not be able to provide for you long-term, however, York is-- creative in his methods of survival.

And if it doesn't?

[ Theta relayed the answer to him, but he held it close to the vest for now. ]

If it doesn't then he still means what he said about being able to stay tonight.

And we can stay tonight, but that doesn't make me trust him. What if she shows up?

Is that the main thing you're worried about?

No, I'm worried that he's got something up his sleeves and isn't telling us everything. You're too trusting.
