"This might surprise you, but I'm doing my homework. We do still have that capstone paper to finish writing. Saturday, though..."

She laughs. "Goody goody. I'll get mine done, but I'm not doing it tonight. I'd like to have fun before I die."

"Why, you planning on dying right after graduation?"

[stackingthedeck]

"Maybe. You never know what'll happen. Someone might rig the stage to explode."

[bothbarrels]

"Morbid. You can't deny you plan ahead, or you wouldn't be thinking about a job and a place."

[stackingthedeck]

"On things that matter. Who cares about some paper when I'm going to graduate anyway? I do need money and a place to sleep."

[bothbarrels]

"Hey, don't screw yourself over. If you don't turn in that capstone paper you won't graduate at all."

[stackingthedeck]

"They're not going to stop me from graduating if I don't turn in one paper. It'll get done, Drew."

[bothbarrels]

"That's the whole point of that paper." He shook his head. "Whatever, as long as you get it done I don't care."

[stackingthedeck]

"You shouldn't care if I don't. It's not your diploma on the line."

[bothbarrels]

"Well, I care, so you're just going to have to deal with it." He rubs his temple and shifts his bag on his shoulder. "So what, is Saturday cool? We can go out somewhere." Get out of that apartment.

"Only if you're buying. I won't have any spending money until I get my first paycheck unless dad gives me some." Which there's a good chance of happening if she sees him and plays her cards right. Their family didn't have a lot of money, but sometimes their dad managed when she asked.

"Yeah, sure. Just don't try ordering steak or something."

It's always music to her ears when he's buying. "I've seen your paychecks. I know you can't afford that."

[bothbarrels]

"We'll do something fun. We can see a matinee if we head out early enough." Which means not staying up too late Friday.

"We'll see. Do I get to pick the movie?" She had to work closing on Friday, but it wasn't like a department store stayed open that late.

"What, you don't think it should be mutual?"

[stackingthedeck]

"Why? What did you want to see?"

[bothbarrels]

He laughs. "Nothing in particular. I just wondered what you'd say."

She rolls her eyes. "Maybe if you didn't like such crappy movies I'd pick them to see."

[bothbarrels]

He shot an amused smile her way. "Seriously, who doesn't enjoy a good ninja flick now and then?"

[stackingthedeck]

"Me, that's who. Who even cares about ninja movies? They're not good ninjas if I can see all of them."

[bothbarrels]

She actually had a good point. He kept on smiling. "If they're the main characters, of course you're going to see them."

"Then they shouldn't be called ninjas. Just grown men who run around trying to be sneaky in their pajamas."

He laughs. "We'll find a happy medium I'm sure." Like that movie about the married spy couple. That one would be pretty fun to watch.
